Birdlife
Over 430 species recorded—from riverine specialists and fish-eagles to bee-eaters and wetland waders along the Rufiji wetlands.

Antelope & Plains Game
Buffalo, sable, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, waterbuck, impala and giraffe thrive in mosaics of miombo, grasslands and floodplains.
DIVERSE HABITATS
NYERERE NATIONAL PARK

Nyerere’s landscapes span miombo woodlands, riverine forest, open grasslands, floodplains and the expansive Rufiji River with its channels, sandbars and ox-bow lakes—each supporting distinct wildlife communities.
Seasonal changes in river levels and rains shape animal movement and viewing. Boat-access wetlands become wildlife hubs, while woodlands and plains host grazers and predators through the dry months, offering varied safari experiences.
Conservation is Key
Through riverine habitat protection, anti-poaching patrols, community partnerships and low-impact tourism, Nyerere continues to safeguard wild dogs, elephants, and a thriving wetland ecosystem along the Rufiji.
