HISTORY

SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

History of Serengeti

Established in 1951, Serengeti National Park preserves the vast ecosystem that supports the Great Migration. Its protected status ensures that over 1.5 million wildebeests and countless predators can thrive across its plains, rivers, and woodlands.

The park's history is deeply rooted in community stewardship and global recognition. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981 and continues to lead conservation efforts in East Africa.

The world's best place to see wildlife

It is difficult to put Serengeti National Park's magic into words. Before realizing it's impossible, you will attempt to explain to friends and relatives what it's like to see and hear millions of wildebeest buzzing so densely in the air that it vibrates through your entire body. It's worth the journey just to see the breathtaking views of the honey-lit plains at sunset. The Maasai people's sincere grins instantly make you feel warm within. Or simply the sensation of always being surrounded by thousands of animals—the Serengeti National Park is enchanted throughout the year, regardless of the time of year you visit.
