GOMBE NATIONAL PARK

World-renowned for wild chimpanzees and classic lakeshore rainforest, Gombe is among Tanzania’s most intimate parks. Steep forested ridges plunge to the turquoise waters of Lake Tanganyika, while narrow valleys shelter troops of primates, colorful birds and cascading streams. Access is by boat from Kigoma, adding a sense of adventure from the very start.

GOMBE NATIONAL PARK

Gombe history

Gombe’s forested ridges became a focal point for global primate research and conservation awareness. The park safeguards wild chimpanzee communities alongside olive baboons, red-tailed and blue monkeys, bushpigs and a remarkable array of forest birds, butterflies and reptiles.

Trails climb to classic lookouts like “Jane’s Peak,” cross cool streams and visit waterfalls tucked into narrow valleys. Lake Tanganyika’s clear waters frame sunsets and provide a lifeline for wildlife and local communities.
