Everything you need for a “bush-meets-sea” safari
Getting There
Saadani lies on Tanzania’s central coast between Bagamoyo and Pangani. From Dar es Salaam (about 4–5 hrs by road) head north via Bagamoyo; from Tanga (about 3–4 hrs) approach via Pangani. High-clearance vehicles are recommended in rainy seasons. Air access is via Dar es Salaam or Tanga with road transfer; charter strips may operate seasonally—confirm locally. Boat access for activities is with authorized operators only.
Accommodation
Options include beach lodges and tented camps inside/near the park (limited capacity), plus hotels/guesthouses in Bagamoyo, Pangani and Dar es Salaam for broader budgets. Many visitors base at a coastal lodge and take guided game drives or Wami River boat safaris by day.
Entry Fees
Park fees follow TANAPA’s official tariff (rates differ by age, residency and vehicle/activity type). Additional charges may apply for Wami River boat safaris, special use of tracks, filming/photography and overnighting. Carry your ID/passport and keep receipts for gate checks.
Regulations
Respect coastal and riverine habitats: remain on designated tracks and boardwalks, do not litter, do not feed wildlife and keep noise low near bird roosts and turtle nesting beaches. Swimming is not advised near river mouths due to crocodiles and currents. Fishing inside the park is not permitted. Drone operations require written authorization in advance.
Visitor Safety
Observe tides and surf conditions on beaches. Wear life jackets on all boats, including Wami River safaris, and follow guide instructions. Keep a safe distance from hippos, crocodiles and other wildlife; do not approach turtle nests or disturb dunes and mangroves. Carry sun protection, drinking water and insect repellent. In emergencies, contact rangers at the nearest gate or lodge reception.
