DIVERSE HABITATS
LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

Nestled against the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara blends an alkaline soda lake, lush groundwater forest, acacia woodland, open floodplains, hot springs and papyrus wetlands—an exceptional diversity in a compact area.
Freshwater springs feed evergreen forest that cools the park’s entrance, while the expansive lake and marshes support flamingos and prolific waterbirds. The escarpment’s cliffs and woodlands provide scenic viewpoints and wildlife corridors connecting the lake shore to the highlands.
Conservation Along the Rift
Help protect Manyara’s fragile wetlands and forests: keep to tracks and boardwalks, never harass or feed wildlife, and maintain a safe distance at hippo pools and bird roosts. Responsible viewing keeps this Rift Valley ecosystem thriving.
