Saanane is primarily a day-visit island. Most visitors stay in Mwanza city—ranging from budget hotels to lakefront properties—and take a short boat to the park for activities such as game viewing, birding, picnics and short hikes.

Help protect the island ecosystem: keep to marked trails, do not litter, do not feed or disturb wildlife, and observe quiet zones near bird-nesting areas. Fishing is by permit only and strictly catch-and-release under ranger guidance. Drone use requires prior written permission.

Visitor Safety

Check weather and lake conditions before travel. Wear life jackets during boat transfers and follow crew instructions. On the island, stay on marked paths, supervise children near the water and cliffs, and keep a respectful distance from wildlife. Bring sun protection, drinking water and insect repellent.
