Everything you need to know before your Arusha adventure
Getting There
Arusha National Park lies 45 minutes from Arusha City and ~1.5 hours from Moshi, with main access via Ngongongare Gate (near Usa River) toward the Momella area. Self-drives and tour vehicles use good all-weather roads; domestic flights arrive at Arusha (ARK) or Kilimanjaro (JRO), with transfers arranged through operators.
Accommodation
Options include public campsites and special campsites, nearby partner lodges/tented camps around Momella and Usa River, plus the Mount Meru trekking huts (Miriakamba & Saddle) for climbers. Book early in peak seasons (June–Oct, Dec–Feb).
Entry Fees
Fees vary by visitor category (citizen, resident, non-resident), age, and activity (e.g., walking, canoeing, Meru trek). Vehicle and camping fees may apply. Check the current TANAPA fee schedule for Arusha before you travel.
Regulations
Stay on designated tracks, observe speed limits, and follow ranger/guide instructions. Do not feed wildlife. Walking safaris and canoeing are guided activities. Drones require prior authorization; off-road driving is restricted.
Visitor Safety
For walking safaris and canoeing, use authorized guides and follow ranger instructions. Carry water, sun protection, and insect repellent. On Mount Meru, acclimatize properly and follow the hut/ranger schedule. Keep a respectful distance from wildlife and avoid leaving your vehicle unless permitted.
